Featured Books
The reference books described below are valuable resources for understanding a specific Bible verse or an entire book. Both sets are helpful when taking a Bible Study or teaching a Sunday School class. The St. James Library has many commentaries on the scriptures.
The NIV Application Commentary , a multi-volume set for the Old and New Testaments, provides a concise explanation of the biblical text in its original context. Most useful, however, are the comments on the significance of the passage for us in our world. The volumes in this series are found at 220.52 B.
The New Interpreter’s Bible, another important resource, is more scholarly than the NIV but provides valuable commentary and reflections for each book of the Bible. These 12 volumes are at 220.7 N. Volumes from both sets can be checked out.
How To Donate Books
If you wish to make a monetary contribution in memory of or honor of someone, the volunteers will purchase a book for the library and indicate your gift with a book plate in the book.
We welcome used books but we reserve the right to donate the books to the AAUW sale if they don’t fit the scope of the St. James collection or if they are duplicates. Leave any such books on the Library front desk with a note.
